Ultimate Pixel Flow Progression Guide
Stuck on a tricky level? Stop randomly guessing. Learn the fundamental algorithms, logical patterns, and spatial awareness tricks to master every puzzle format in Pixel Flow.
The Core Rule of Pixel Flow
You must meet two conditions to win: (1) Every color must connect to its pair. (2) Every single empty tile on the board must be filled. Many beginners solve the colors but leave 2-3 empty tiles, causing the level to fail. If you have empty tiles, you need to deliberately take a longer, zig-zag path to soak up that space.
1. Work from the Outside In (The Perimeter Strategy)
The most reliable algorithm for solving any flow puzzle is to work along the edges first. Find a color that is placed near the edge of the grid and map its path along the perimeter.
- Why it works: By hugging the walls, you prevent that color from cutting the board in half. If you draw a line straight down the middle of the board, you often trap other colors on opposite sides.
- Application: Always look for the points closest to the corners. Connect them first by riding the outer wall.
Do: Hug the Walls
Route paths around the extreme edges of the board to maximize the open space left in the center.
Don't: Cut the Center
Taking the shortest, straightest path between two dots usually traps unconnected dots on opposite sides.
2. The "Bottleneck" Principle
Before you start drawing lines, take 5 seconds to scan the board for bottlenecks. Bottlenecks are narrow corridors of 1 or 2 tiles width that must be traversed by specific colors.
If there is a 1-tile gap between a dot and the wall, only one line can pass through it. If a dot is trapped in a corner behind another dot, the path for the trapped dot is completely predetermined. Connect predetermined paths first! They reduce the complexity of the remaining board exponentially.
3. Solving the "Unfilled Squares" Problem
Often, you'll connect all the dots but have a 2x2 square of empty space left over. You don't need to restart! Look at the path that is adjacent to the empty space. You can usually grab that path, delete a straight segment, and redraw it to "snake" through the empty 2x2 area.
